BarrenaPhD in Physics at the Autonomous University of Madrid (2001). From 2002 until 2009 she worked as group leader at the Max-Planck-Institute for Metal Research in Stuttgart in the investigation of the structure and growth of organic semiconductors by synchrotron x-ray diffraction methods. She pioneered the in-situ study of film formation of polymer solar cells to understand and identify the drying conditions which foster the formation of a more optimized nanomorphology to achieve enhanced photovoltaic performance. At the end of 2009 she moved to the ICMAB-CSIC as tenured scientist to work on the functional properties of organic semiconductors at nano- and molecular-scale. E.Barrena has expertise in the organic growth, self-assembly, characterization of morphological and structural properties by X-ray diffraction and scanning probe methods as well as in the nanoscale characterization of organic devices.
