Carsten Deibel studied physics at the Universities of Bochum (D) and Sussex (UK). He did his PhD research on the characterisation of inorganic solar cells at the University of Oldenburg (D). He obtained his PhD in natural sciences (Physics) in 2002. During a two-year postdoctoral stay at the Interuniversity Microelectronics Center (IMEC) in Leuven, Belgium, he investigated on polymer solar cells and discotic liquid crystalline devices. From 2005, CD was group leader at the University of Würzbury (D), where he was responsible for the fundamental research of charge generation and transport in organic semiconductors in view of photovoltaics. In 2010, he was selected to join the Young Academy of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
